Student Diplomats

The Student Diplomats program gives students a tangible diplomatic tool set they can use to enhance their professional development and success. At the heart of this diplomatic tool set is the ability for students to learn how to lead high-level bilateral dialogues, write diplomatic correspondence and treatises, hone crisis negotiation strategies, and foster productive relationships with global businesses and foreign ministries. Whether it's the foreign service or a corporate boardroom, our program gives members multifaceted strategies and experience that can help them succeed in variety of capacities. *Georgetown University students only*

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background and interest in international relations, economics, international development, history
  • Confident public speakers
  • Professionalism
  • Excellent writing and analysis abilities

Global Research

Global Research analysts provide innovative, comprehensive, and timely research reports for our clients. These reports can include, for example, strategies for mitigating client vulnerabilities and improving social development. Global Research analysts will construct analytical reports on salient geopolitical topics which include situational assessments and policy recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Language abilities in: Arabic, Chinese, Russian, French, Spanish
  • Exceptional writing and research skills, including effective consolidation and analysis  of open source resources
  • Knowledge and interest in international relations, international development, energy security, global health, education, capacity building, regional speciality and cultural understanding
  • Self-started and team player who can effectively work in collaborative environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines  

Business and Finance

Business and Finance associates are instrumental in not only running the business side of GDS, but also in consulting for our clients. Associates will also develop systematic and quantitative solutions to drive efficiency in the production of content for GDS and our clients. Furthermore, associates will explore global investment and trade trends, impactful development solutions, and emerging markets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Language abilities in: Arabic, Chinese, Russian, French, Spanish. However experience in any language is a plus
  • Knowledge and interest in global markets, international trade, global development, and economics
  • Experience in accounting, budgeting, fundraising
  • Experience in data input and analysis software such as STATA
  • Self-started and team player who can effectively work in collaborative environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines 

Design and IT associates are instrumental in interpreting the media and design needs of GDS clients into lasting solutions. Associates will work on developing a variety of projects for our clients including social media marketing, website construction and maintenance, and brand management. Furthermore, associates will create videos for, photograph, and market GDS Student Diplomat events.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience in web design, social media, marketing, Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut/IMovie, and Illustrator
  • Self-starter and team player who can effectively work in collaborative environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
